1. EasyJet flight DELAY

Here is what you should do if your easyJet flight is delayed.

First of fall, don’t stress over it. It’s nothing out of the ordinary. Especially when we are talking of easyJet, which in 2017 was named the worst airline for delayed flights.

1.1 If you are still at home

If you are at home when you learn of the delay, check what is the reason why your flight is delayed. Go to the airport’s website to see also if your flight is the only one, one of the few or there are many other flights delayed. If the latter is true, there is probably some bigger issue, like bad weather conditions at the airport, and it may take a while until the situation improves. So it’s a better idea to stay at home for a while and follow the news.

In all other situations, you can stay at home a bit extra and then proceed as planned.

In case you have connecting flights booked separately, that you may miss now, you will have to decide what to do next. In situations when your flights are booked via easyJet, they will be taken care of and you’ll be put on another flight if you miss the first one because of a flight delay.

Remember - if it turns out to be the airline’s fault, you may also be entitled to easyJet delay compensation. Scroll down to learn more about how to claim it.

1.2 If you are already at the airport

Follow the information regarding your flight and think if there are any other flights (or plans in general), that this flight delay is going to affect. If you have another flight, a connecting flight booked online via easyJet (Worldwide by easyJet), then you’ll be fine no matter the lengtht of this delay. Because if you miss your connecting flight, you’ll be re-booked onto the next available flight at no extra cost.

If, however, that’s a flight you have booked separately, then you’ll have to think of a solution yourself. Your travel insurance company might be able to help you out.

Next - wait for more information.

And follow your easyJet flight status either online or by checking the flight information screen at the airport. If you don’t understand information available to you or you want to have a second opinion, it’s worth contacting information desk at the airport.

- 3 hour flight delay

According to EU regulations, whenever your flight is delayed and you have to wait at the airport for 3 or more hours, you are entitled to receive a free meal and drink plus two free phone calls, e-mails or faxes.

The only exception being situations when this would cause the delay to be even longer.

If you are travelling with a European airline, it applies also to flights from countries outside the European Union heading for the EU.

- Long delay

In case of an even longer delay, when you have no other choice but to wait overnight, free hotel accommodation and transport to and from it must be provided by easyJet. Plus free meals and drinks.

No matter the cause of the flight delay - within or out of the easyJet's control - every passenger is entitled to this type of care by easyJet.

Apart from that easyJet still has an obligation to take you to your destination.

It applies to all your easyJet flights to, from or within Europe. To all easyJet flight delays.

If it’s the company's fault, you may as well get flight compensation up to €600 per passenger.

If it's easyJet's fault

If it’s Wizz Air's fault that your flight is delayed for more than 3 hours, you may as well get flight compensation up to €600 per passenger.

The longer your journey, the more you can claim. File a claim now!

2. EasyJet flight CANCELLATION

Here is what you should do if your easyJet flight is cancelled.

2.1 If you are still at home

If you have received an email from easyJet saying that your flight is cancelled, in the same email most probably there will also be an explanation why the flight is cancelled and what are the options they are offering you. Mostly they will offer you a new flight to your destination with them or with another airline, at no extra cost.

If it’s the airline cancelling the flight, you may as well ask for a full refund. If that’s what you fancy more, not a new flight.

What if you haven’t received anything from easyJet, let alone an email explaing the situation? Then you’ll have to wait for one. Or contact the easyJet’s call centre, as most probably it’s already day of your departure and you have learned of it from the website of the airport.

According to EU regulations, whenever your flight is cancelled, it’s the airline’s fault and you are notified less than 2 weeks before the date of departure, you may also get a flight cancellation compensation up to €600. If there are 3 of you travelling together, you may receive up to €1800.

These rules apply to all easyJet flights to, from or within Europe.

And, yes, you can get both - a new flight to your destination or full refund and a flight cancellation compensation up to €600.

2.2 If you are at the airport

Wait for the announcement regarding your easyJet cancellation. Or contact the easyJet information desk at the airport.

Is there another flight you may miss now?

Unlike many other low-cost airlines, easyJet does sell connecting flights.

If it’s a connecting flight booked online via easyJet (Worldwide by easyJet), know that you’re covered and will be put on another flight at no extra cost. If, however, you have booked these flights separately, you may now need to look for another solution and - if necessary - book another flight and pay for it yourself. Your travel insurance may come in handy right now. Contact your insurer to ask about the best way to deal with the situation.

- 3 hour delay

A new flight has been offered and you have decided to take it. But you still have to wait. If the wait is going to be 3 or more hours long, and you are at the airport, the airline has to provide you with free meal and drink plus two free phone calls, e-mails or faxes.

If nothing is being offered, demand it by contacting the easyJet staff at the airport.

- Long delay

In case of an overnight delay, easyJet has to provide you with free hotel accommodation, transport to and from hotel, plus the above mentioned food and drinks, most probably issued in a form of coupons.

No matter the cause of the flight cancellation, you are entitled to this type of care by easyJet. Apart from that easyJet, same like every other airline operating in EU, still have an obligation to get you to destination or give you a full refund.

Flight cancellation compensation. If it’s the easyJet’s fault that the flight was cancelled in the first place, and you have been notified less than 14 days before departure, you may still be entitled to flight cancellation compensation up to €600 per passenger.

All of this applies to all your easyJet flights to, from or within Europe.

And, yes, you can get both - a new flight to your destination or full refund and a compensation.

If it's easyJet's fault

If it’s the easyJet’s fault that the flight was cancelled, and if you have been notified less than 14 days before departure, you may still be entitled to flight cancellation compensation up to €600 per passenger.

And, yes, often you can get both - a new flight or full refund and a compensation.

- How long does it usually take?

Mostly 2-3 months.

- How far back can you claim for flight delay compensation?

It depends from country to country. Mostly, though, it's at least 2-3 years.

- Does it apply only to citizens of the European Union?

No. You don’t have to be a citizen of the European Union to be entitled to EU flight cancellation compensation.

What matters here is if you are travelling in or from the EU, Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Martinique, Reunion, Mayotte, Saint Martin (French Antilles), the Azores, Madeira, the Canary Islands, Iceland, Norway, and Switzerland. And if you are travelling from another country to one of these above mentioned countries, it applies only if you are travelling with a European airline.

4.1 How much can you claim

The exact amount of your easyJet refund varies and is based on the distance of your flight and occasionally some other factors.

But mostly it’s either 250, 400 or 600 euro.

  • €250 - if the distance of your flight is up to 1500 kilometres (1-2 hour flights);

5. EasyJet denied boarding compensation

All in all, rules are the same.

It applies to all easyJet flights to, from or within Europe.

In this case, Europe means all EU Member States and Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Martinique, Reunion, Mayotte, Saint Martin (French Antilles), the Azores, Madeira, the Canary Islands, Iceland, Norway, and Switzerland.

You don’t have to be European to be entitled to denied boarding compensation.

The amount of compensation also is the same - up to €600 per passenger.

And you can get both - a new flight to your destination or full refund and a compensation.

The most important thing here is that in order for you to be entitled to denied boarding compensation, it must be, so called, involuntary denied boarding. You see, whenever there is a situation, that there are more passengers willing to fly than there are available seats on the plane, someone will be asked if he or she is ready to voluntarily give up their seat and fly later. Extras, like vouchers, usually are offered to sweeten the deal.

And, of course, if you’ve been denied boarding because you didn’t have a valid visa or there was another problem with your travel documents, you will not be entitled to compensation either.

Same like if the reason of denied boarding was anything else except for overbooking.

Don't forget! When something like this happens, make sure to ask easyJet staff at the airport or easyJet customer service representatives about all the options you have and what should you do next. They still should take you to your destination.

6. EasyJet connecting flights

EasyJet offers connecting flights via several hubs.

From those hubs passengers continue their journey either on another easyJet flight, or on one of their partner airlines’ flight.

EasyJet connecting flights can be bought directly from their website. Go to www.easyjet.com/worldwide to book a connecting flight.

Also you can buy their connecting flights via third parties, like, kiwi.com, but then Kiwi is responsible for the transfer, not easyJet. Kiwi Guarantee protects its customers from flight delays, flight cancellations and schedule changes. If you have booked a trip with Kiwi, and the trip has been affected, you must contact Kiwi within 24 hours, otherwise the Kiwi Guarantee may be cancelled. Learn more about Kiwi Guarantee on kiwi.com!

And in some cases you’ll be responsible for booking yourself a new flight or flights in case you miss the first one, no matter the reason. Take that into account when booking several flights.

Few more things you need to know about connecting flights:

  1. Checked luggage. Checked-in luggage should be purchased for every flight separately
  2. Missed connection. If you miss your next flight because the first (or the previous) flight is cancelled or delayed, easyJet will transfer you to the next available flight.
  3. Flight compensation. At the same time, if any of your easyJet flights is delayed for 3+ hours or cancelled at the last-minute (less than 2 weeks before the scheduled time of departure), you may get flight compensation up to €600 per passenger.
