1. What to do if your flight is DELAYED?

Your flight is delayed. What should you do?

Depends on the situation (see below). First, you have to find out how long will be the delay, and when you need to go to the airport. There’s no need to go to the airport when the delay is going to be extra long, it’s better to wait at home or hotel.

1.1 If you are still at home

Let’s assume, you are still at home or hotel.

You’ve received an e-mail notifying about the delay, or you’ve checked your flight status. If you’ve received an e-mail from your airline, you may already know how long will be the delay, and when you’ll need to go to the airport. All of this may be mentioned in the message.

If it’s not, or if you’ve checked flight status online, you may not know that. Call the airline or airport, to find out more about the delay. You need to find out what is the check in status for your flight, even if you have already checked in online. Knowing that, you’ll know what to do next.

If check in is going to be delayed, wait for a while.

If check in isn't delayed, go to the airport as normally.

Do you have another flight you may miss?

What will happen to your connecting flight if you miss it? There are two scenarios. If you have an airline-protected connecting flight, you are in safe hands! The airline will take care of you, and if necessary put you on another flight for free. If you have a self transfer (two or more separately booked flights) you may have to book a new ticket. The airline/airlines won’t provide you any free tickets — since in this situation it’s not their responsibility.

1.2 If you are already at the airport

You have arrived at the airport only to find out that your flight is delayed. Bummer! What now? Just like in the previous situation, you need to find out when check in for your flight starts. Yes, even if you have already checked in online. This way you’ll be able to figure out what to do next.

If check in hasn’t started, for now just wait.

You may be facing a long delay. Your flight may even get cancelled. That’s why it’s important to stay in the public access area of the airport, even if you have checked in. If your flight gets cancelled, you will need to get new tickets. And that you can do only at the public access area of the airport. Once check in for your flight starts, you can check in and go through security.

If check has started, that’s a good sign.

Check in (if you haven’t already) and proceed through airport security. Go to your gate. Do everything as you would normally do, and keep following the status of your flight.

- 3 hour flight delay

Pegasus Airlines is a Turkish airline.

Despite this fact, on some flights you are protected by the EU.

If your Pegasus Airlines flight departing from the EU/UK is delayed, cancelled or you’ve been denied boarding, you may have a right to receive certain services for free. If you have to wait at the airport 3+ hours because of flight disruption, you have a right to care from the airline. Pegasus Airlines has to provide you with two free phone calls or e-mails and also a free meal and drink.

This applies to all Pegasus Airlines passengers.

If your Pegasus Airlines flight departs from a country outside of the EU, the Regulation EC 261/2004 won’t work. However, you may be protected under the Turkish law. Contact Pegasus Airlines to find out more about this.

- Long delay (Overnight delay)

If the delay is longer, you may also get a hotel room (on EU flights).

Pegasus Airlines has to offer you free hotel room and free transfer.

Every affected passenger has a right to this.

1.3 If it is fault of Pegasus Airlines

That includes things like technical problems and staff shortage.

In this case, you may also be entitled to EU flight delay compensation.

2.1 If you are still at home

You need to find out what’s happening next.

Contact Pegasus Airlines, if they haven’t yet contacted you.

If your Pegasus Airlines flight departs from the EU, you are protected under the EU law. The airline must offers you a new flight or full refund. You can choose either. If you don’t want to take the alternative flight offered by Pegasus Airlines, you can request a refund. If, for example, it doesn’t fit your travel plans.

In situations when it’s due to fault of the airline, you may have a right to compensation. More on that further below.

2.2 If you are already at the airport

Let’s assume, you have already arrived at the airport.

What now? The most important thing — don’t go through airport security. Your flight is cancelled, and you need to get a new flight ticket. You can only do it at the landside area of the airport. It's where all the airline counters and check in desks are located. And it’s before airport security.

Try to get in touch with the representatives of Pegasus Airlines. Ask them what’s happening next. Then get a new ticket. Wait for your new flight. And when check in for your new flight starts, check in and go through airport security. If the wait is long, you may be entitled to some services for free. If your flight departs on the next day, the airline may provide you with a free hotel stay.

Ask for a refund, if you don’t want to take the new flight.

Pegasus Airlines is an airline registered in Turkey.

Despite that, on some flights you are protected by the EU.

If your Pegasus Airlines flight departs from the EU, and you are stuck at the airport due to delay, cancellation or overbooking, you may have a right to receive certain services for free. If you are waiting for 3 or more hours, you have a right to care from the airline. The airline has to provide you with two free phone calls or e-mails (or internet access) and also a free meal and drink.

Cancellations due to extraordinary circumstances?

This applies to all Pegasus Airlines cancellations.

All thanks to Regulation EC 261/2004. If the flight departs from Turkey or other country outside the EU, the Regulation EC 261/2004 won’t work. However, you may be protected under the Turkish law. Contact the airline to find out more about this.

- Long delay (Overnight delay)

In this case you have a right to free accommodation.

A free hotel stay and free transfer has to be offered if you are waiting overnight at a EU/UK airport. It is the airline's responsibility, and every affected passenger has a right to this type of care. However, as it is assessed case by case, the airline may decide not to provide a free hotel stay. For example, if waiting time is 6 hours, but there are way too many affected passengers to help everyone in time. And the airline may decide against that.

2.3 If it is fault of Pegasus Airlines

That includes things like technical problems and bad planning.

If that causes a cancellation, it is considered fault of the airline.

And you may also be entitled to EU flight cancellation compensation.

5. How to claim Pegasus Airlines denied boarding compensation?

You may get denied boarding even if you have a valid ticket.

It may happen if your flight is overbooked. Overbooking happens when an airline sells more tickets than there are seats, and everybody shows up for their flight. If your flight is overbooked, you may be asked to give up your seat and travel later. Your airline will provide you with a new ticket for free + there will be other perks. You can agree to that or no. Whenever you aren’t even given a choice, you have a right to EU denied boarding compensation.

With Pegasus, it applies to flights departing from Europe.

Compensation amounts are as follows — 250, 400 or 600 euro.

In most cases, you can get both — a new flight or refund and compensation.

Don’t forget that this applies only to overbooking. If there are problems with your travel documents, your passport expires soon, or if you voluntarily give up your seat and agree to travel later, you won’t be entitled to any compensation from Pegasus Airlines.
